How to Maintain and Repair a Fuel Tank on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

As the fuel tank pressure stays on, you should first relieve it before you start servicing or fixing it. First, take out and empty the tank to start your cleaning. Before installing, make sure to check the rotational indexing arrow to know how to position the module. Inside the frame, fit the Position Lockring Remover/Installer 9340 into the small notches on the edge of lockring 5. Fasten an extension handle with a 1/2 inch drive to 9340 and turn the handle counter-clockwise to break the lockring. When the lockring is removed, the module will jump up a bit, making it easy to lift out of the fuel tank without bending the float arm.

How to Service and Repair a Fuel Tank's Pump Module on Jeep Wrangler?

Ensure to remove the fuel tank and let the pressure out before handling the fuel pump module, since the fuel system is steadily under pressure all the time. Mark the position of the module by looking at the indexing arrow found on the top. Make sure the notches on the outside edge of the lockring engage with Lockring Remover/Installer 9340. Put the 1/2 inch drive breaker bar on the Lockring Remover/Installer and turn it to the left which will loosen the lockring and let the module spring up a little. Carefully remove the module from the fuel tank, so you do not bend the float arm. When installing, change the rubber seal, put the module in its place inside the fuel tank and add the lockring above it. Adjust the module using the rotation ring, so that the arrow inside marks the exact center alignment point and the fuel fitting on the pump module faces the front of the car which prevents contact between the float and the tank side. Attach the Lockring Remover/Installer and the breaker bar again and tighten the lockring until every one of the seven notches meets the bar while reinstalling the fuel tank.
