2004 Jeep Liberty A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What is the Role of the A/C Accumulator in HVAC Maintenance on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before you can service the accumulator in the HVAC system, begin by letting go and isolating the negative cable of the battery and also get up the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C low pressure switch and if needed, remove the A/C low pressure switch from the accumulator, throwing away the O-ring seal. Second, pull off the accumulator and bracket from the mounting studs on the dash panel, remove the nuts holding the refrigerant lines and separate the coolant hoses from the accumulator. Take out the O-ring seals from your refrigerant line fittings after opening them and cover the openings using plugs or tape. Take away the accumulator and mounting bracket from your car and, if needed, loosen the bolt holding the retaining band to take out the accumulator. At the installation phase, if you're changing the accumulator, you should put 120 milliliters (4 fluid ounces) of the recommended oil into the refrigerant system. Set the accumulator into the bracket and then screw in the retaining band slightly, but not all the way. Join the accumulator and bracket parts to the mounting studs in the dash panel, then close the nuts to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.). With the tape or plugs out of the refrigerant line fittings and accumulator ports, drop a bit of clean refrigerant oil on the new rubber O-ring seal and place it on the fittings, making sure you have the correct type for the R-134a system. Rejoin the refrigerant lines to the accumulator and fasten each by securing the nuts to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Screw the accumulator retaining band screw to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.), attach the A/C low pressure switch to the accumulator with its O-ring and connect the wiring to the switch. Next, secure the last negative battery cable, remove all the refrigerant and charge it up properly.
