2003 Jeep Liberty A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Accumulator in a Refrigerant System on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before removing the accumulator, you must remove and isolate the battery's negative cable and then recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Take out the wire harness connector from the low pressure cycling clutch switch and unscrew the screw holding the accumulator retaining band to the dash support bracket. Release the suction line connection from the accumulator tube fitting and remember to cover each uncovered end of the refrigerant line with either tape or a plug. From here, take the accumulator inlet tube refrigerant line off of the evaporator outlet tube and again close the openings with plugs or tape. Since the screw in the band is in your way, pull the unit forward and out of the support bracket and then remove the accumulator from the vehicle. Push the screw from the retaining band into the hole on the dash panel's bracket. Unplug the refrigerant line plugs from the couplings on the accumulator inlet tube and the evaporator outlet tube, then line the accumulator inlet tube refrigerant line coupler to the evaporator outlet tube. Secure the return pipe by turning the front nut 2 1/2 turns, then remove any tape or plugs from the suction line and accumulator outlet refrigerant line coupler fitting, carefully linking the refrigerant and tightening the clamp on the outlet tube. Fit the wire harness connector to the low pressure cycling clutch switch, reattach the battery negative wire, clear the refrigerant system and fill it back up. Whenever you put in a new accumulator, add 120 milliliters (4 fluid ounces) of the correct oil for the compressor in your vehicle to the refrigerant system.
