2005 Jeep Liberty A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, remove the negative battery cable and separate it from the circuit and then carefully recover any refrigerant present in the system. Release the A/C low pressure switch from the wire harness connector and whenever needed, take the switch out of the accumulator, leaving behind the original O-ring. Unfasten the bolt holding together the retainers on the support bracket on the dash and take out the nuts connecting the refrigerant lines to the accumulator, then feel free to separate the lines, removing the O-ring seals as you do. Cover both ends of the opened refrigerant lines with plugs, then secure the accumulator and band in that position as you pull them forward until the bolt in the band passes the hole in the bracket and allows you to remove the band from your engine bay. After installing a new accumulator, measure and add 4 fluid ounces of recommended refrigerant oil to the car's refrigerant. Insert the accumulator head into the retaining band and lightly install the bolt and then move the assembly into the slotted part of the support bracket. Lift the tape or plugs from the line fittings and accumulator ports, dip the rubber O-ring seals in clean refrigerant oil, fit these seals onto the refrigerant line fittings and match the right O-rings for the refrigerant you are using. Link the refrigerant pipes to the accumulator and attach nuts, then tighten them to 9 N.m (80 in.lbs.). Fasten the bolt that secures the accumulator retaining band to the support bracket to 4.5 N.m (40 in.lbs.). If you take out the A/C low pressure switch, attach it to the bottom of the accumulator along with a new O-ring, making sure it is hand-tight and then hook up the wire harness connector. Attach the negative battery cable, release all refrigerant and fill the refrigerant system.
