2004 Jeep Liberty A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before pulling out the A/C condenser, unhook and isolate the cable from the car's negative battery. Break the nuts holding the discharge and liquid line fittings to the condenser tapping block and extract and discard the O-rings from these fittings. Place plugs or cover all open refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports with tape. After that, take out the upper radiator cross member from the engine compartment and remove, if you have one, the two bolts that hold the automatic transmission cooler to the radiator; then, put the cooler somewhere safe. Take out the bolts joining the A/C condenser brackets to the radiator, then raise the condenser so that it comes loose from the brackets below and is easy to remove from the engine. Add 1 fluid ounce (30 milliliters) of refrigerant oil to the vehicle's refrigerant system if the A/C condenser is being replaced, selecting the type made for the A/C compressor in your car. Lift the A/C condenser into the engine area, connect the lower condenser brackets to the radiator and put in the two upper condenser bracket bolts, tightening them to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). If you have the automatic transmission cooler, attach it to the radiator and install the two retaining bolts, turning them until they reach 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Place the upper radiator crossmember into your vehicle and then disconnect the tape or protective plugs from the discharge line, the liquid line and the condenser. Fill rubber O-rings with clean R-134a oil and set them on both the discharge and liquid line fittings, as directed in the manual, using only seals made from the proper material. Fit the two fittings on pipe to the condenser tapping block and tighten their nuts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.); reconnect the negative battery cable; evacuate the refrigerant system; then charge the refrigerant system.
