2005 Jeep Liberty A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Optimal Performance Before Removing the A/C Condenser on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before detaching the A/C condenser, check and record the spots of each radiator/condenser air seal which direct the air through both the A/C condenser and radiator and should be set up in the same place after reinstallation. In the beginning, remove the battery cable from the negative terminal and afterward remove the refrigerant from the system. Take out the compression nuts securing the discharge and liquid lines to the condenser tapping block, remove both lines from the A/C condenser and do not keep the O-ring seals. Install plugs or tape on all opened refrigerant lines and condenser ports and then remove the upper radiator crossmember. Should the vehicle have them, take out the two bolts that hold the automatic transmission cooler to the radiator and keep it out of the way. After that, undo the bolts holding the upper A/C condenser brackets to the radiator, raise the condenser as it comes loose, unhook the brackets from the radiator and pull the A/C condenser out from under the engine. While replacing the A/C condenser, always add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of recommended refrigerant oil into the refrigerant system of the vehicle. Carefully place the new A/C condenser in the engine compartment, fasten the lower condenser brackets to the radiator, put the two upper condenser bolts in place and secure them to the radiator at 5 N.m (44 in.lbs.). If you have one, hook the automatic transmission cooler to the radiator and install the two retaining bolts, snugging them until they reach 5 N.m (44 in.lbs.). Add the upper radiator crossmember, take off the tape or plugs on the discharge and liquid line fittings as well as the condenser ports, use clean refrigerant oil to grease the new rubber O-ring seals, then place the seals on the discharge and liquid line openings, choosing only the exact O-rings meant for R-134a. Join the discharge and liquid lines to the condenser, screw in the nuts for these lines and tighten them to 12 N.m (105 in.lbs.). Relatch the negative cable into place on the frame, pull out and discharge the refrigerant system and fill the system with refrigerant again.
