2005 Jeep Wrangler A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2005 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before removing the condenser, you should cut the battery's negative cable and get rid of the refrigerant in the system. Lift out the three brackets securing the upper condenser air seal to the panel above and remove the upper part of the seal. After that, take out the two screws holding the upper condenser mounting brackets onto the grille panel. Remove the nuts fastening the discharge and liquid line fittings to the condenser tapping block from the right side of the grille opening. After removing the nuts, discard the seals on these fittings. For every opened refrigerant line fitting and condenser port, put a plug or a piece of tape inside them. Separate the retainers on the passenger side side frame rail and grille panel and the screws from the lower condenser mount. Take out the three screws near the radiator panel to the grille panel on each side, then tilt the radiator and shroud back towards the engine so that the cooling fan doesn't touch the radiator. Lift out the condenser from the vehicle with care. During installation, if replacing the condenser, inject 22 milliliters (0.75 fluid ounce) of the indicated refrigerant oil into the refrigerant system. Place the condenser in the vehicle, then attach the two upper condenser mounting brackets to the grille panel by screwing them in to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Put the radiator and its shroud in their mounts and tighten the screws to 8 Nm (72 in. lbs.). Install the upper condenser air seal into the grille with three retainers and after that take off the tape or plugs from the discharge tubing and liquid line fittings, plus the air and liquid ports on the condenser. Introduce a proper R-134a refrigerant oil to new rubber O-ring seals and set them on the discharge and liquid line fittings-use only what the R-134a system specifies. Use your hand to place the discharge and liquid line fittings through the grille onto the condenser tapping block and tighten the nuts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Screw the two lower condenser bracket screws into the grille panel with 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) and use three retainers to attach the lower condenser air seal to both the panel and passenger side frame rail. Connect the battery's negative cable again, empty the refrigerant from the refrigerating system and recharge it.
