  A: First, turn off the air bag system on vehicles that have air bags by isolating the battery negative (ground) cable, allowing it to sit for two minutes so the air bag capacitor's energy is not accidentally released. Open the housing for your HVAC and disassemble it so you can reach the evaporator. Carefully pull the evaporator from the lower half of the housing with support below. If putting in a new evaporator, include 45 milliliters (1.5 fluid ounces) of the proper refrigerant oil for the car's compressor into the refrigerant system. Once those two units are connected, install the evaporator coil in the HVAC housing bottom half, hook the HVAC housing back together and fasten the HVAC unit into the car.
