2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Center a Clock Spring Assembly on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Place the rotating tape under the steering wheel and front wheels in the correct alignment. Poor alignment could result in a failed Clock Spring assembly. The first step is to put the wheels forward and open the hood. Cut the negative wire at the battery by disconnecting it and wait for two minutes because if the reserve capacitor doesn't have time to discharge, an accidental air bag deployment may lead to personal injury or death. After removing the steering wheel, you don't have to handle the Clock Spring, because the rotor will spin on its own once the wheel is away. Turn the Clock Spring rotor in a clockwise direction as far as it will go, but without using too much force, then turn it counterclockwise more than 180 degrees until the connector and wire are directly above the twelve o'clock position and give it an additional two completely counterclockwise turns to secure the Clock Spring locking mechanism. After reinstalling both the steering wheel and driver air bag, be very careful not to attach the battery's negative cable once the system test has not been completed.
