2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Washer Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Washer Pump on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, open the hood and take off the negative battery cable before you do any work on the windshield washer pump. Carefully lift the wiper arm nut cap with a trim stick, then remove the retaining nut below it. While on the wheels, lift the arm out of the pivot by swaying back and forth, then remove the rear plugs, the seal from the engine compartment and the four push retainers on the right cowl cover. After that, unscrew the three screws holding the reservoir, separate the pump wire and disconnect the hoses from the washer. From inside the cowl area, pull out the washer reservoir and pour it into a bucket. Peel the plastic strap off the pump, carefully watch as the pump separates from the reservoir without poking a hole and take off the rubber grommet. Put a fresh grommet every time the pump is installed or removed, so there is no risk of leaks. Insert a grommet into the reservoir, insert the assembly pump into the grommet, cover with the plastic strap and snap it into the reservoir. Put the reservoir into the cowl area, then attach the white and black washers in their proper places which are on the white and black halves of the neon green pump. Attach the pump wire to connect the pump, then screw in the three bushings on the reservoir and torque them to 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.). After removing the old cover, put the replacement one in place, add four push retainers to secure it and slide in the rear engine compartment seal. Make sure the front wiper module is in the PARK position, then match the location of the driver's wiper arm and the middle point of the passenger's wiper arm with the center of the park line on the windshield. Put the arm on the pivot in the middle/high over position, add and tighten the wiper arm retaining nut to 21 N.m (190 in. lbs.) and then install the wiper arm nut cap. Carefully attach the negative battery cable, close the hood and make sure the vehicle and the systems are working.
