2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Return Hose on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing or repairing the power steering return hose, empty as much fluid as possible from the reservoir, using a siphon. Raise and support the vehicle and if it is Lhd, pull off the hose clamp holding the return hose (3) to the cooler (2) and slide it away from the tube. Remove the hose clamp (1) holding the return hose onto the power steering fluid cooler (4) and then gently remove the hose from the cooler tube. Lower the vehicle and remove the hose clamp below the reserve (4) from the reservoir (1), then pull the hose off and take it out of the vehicle. After that, slide a hose clamp onto the return hose's side meant for the reservoir so it clears the molded port on the reservoir. Take the return hose and fit its top end onto the reservoir and then guide the rest of the hose down the back of the engine after doing so. Enlarge the hose clamp and put it onto the fitting of the fluid reservoir, making certain it is past the bead that's made into the fitting. While lifting the vehicle, check that the power steering fluid hoses are clear from places where damage may occur. Rub the open end of the hose and the power steering fluid cooler with a lint-free towel. Mount the end of the hose to the hose clamp, so it doesn't touch the fitting of the steering gear or cooler. Connect the end of the cooler tube (2) to the return hose (3) and hold it against the bead to make sure it's well sealed. Slide the return hose into the end of the cooler tube and attach it with the hose clamp just past the bead on the tube. Make sure to lift the vehicle, do the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation and examine the gaskets at every connection to check for leaks.
