2006 Dodge Dakota Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Parking Brake Cable on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before starting to service or repair the front parking brake system, lift the vehicle, block it from rolling, unlock the parking brake cable and use the adjusting nut to slacken the front cable (2). Pull off the cable adjuster's front cable, push the cable end fitting downwards at the underbody bracket (5) and take the cable (1) off the bracket. Lift the cable and detach it along with the body grommet (1) when you lift the vehicle up on jack stands. With a small screwdriver, force out the ball of the cable (4) from the pedal clevis (3), push down on the cable end fitting (4) at the pedal bracket (5) and remove the cable (4). After that, take off the left cowl trim, discard the sill plate, remove the carpeting and detach the cable from the body clip. First, feed the cable from inside the vehicle through the hole in the pedal assembly (5). Then insert the retainer into the hole and finally connect the cable ball into the assembly's clevis. After putting the cable (2) through the floorpan and fitting the body grommet (1), lift up the carpet, set the sill plate and left cowl trim in place and connect the carpet. Lift and support the vehicle a second time, pass the cable (5) through the bottom bracket and seat its fitting inside the bracket. Hook the cable (1) to the cable adjuster (4), then carry out the park brake adjustment procedure and only proceed to lower the vehicle.
