2006 Jeep Commander Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: To service or repair the rear parking brake cable, take the rear seat bottom out and remove the final drive control module connectors. After the module bracket, next remove the rear sill plates and then roll back the carpet to locate the rear park brake cables. Lock the park brake cable and remove the brake cables from the equalizer, only after that should you remove the park brake cables from the floor. Elevate the vehicle, remove the wheel and tire and next, lift out the rear caliper and disc brake rotor. Next, lift your car off its wheels and remove the bolts securing the axle flange, followed by the axle; then, pull the park brake cable from the lever it's connected to and remove the rear park brake shoes. Traveling through the support plate, unclip the park brake cable and then take off the bolts on the stabilizer bar as well as the park brake cable's two pins on the axle. You should first install the new cable, then lay the park brake cable push pins on the stabilizer bar bracket and lastly clamp the stabilizer bar bushings with their bolts. Insert the cable of the park brake into the support plate, secure it at the brake actuator lever and attach the rear park brake shoes again. After that, put in the axle shaft and nuts, set the rear brake shoes correctly and add in the disc brake rotor and rear caliper. Guide the park brake cables underneath the floor, mount the wheel and tire, bring the car to the ground and link the brake cables to the equalizer. Pull up the park brake cable, fold the rear carpet down and fix the rear sill plates in place. Next, attach the final drive control module bracket using mounting nuts, securely attach the electrical connectors and click the rear seat bottom back into place, checking that the parking brake functions.
