2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the ABS Control Module on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Start by pulling the negative battery cable from the battery and using a brake pedal prop rod during the repair and service. Drain the master cylinder after that and disjoin the HCU's electrical connections. Quit the main brake line at the master cylinder and at the HCU and then remove the secondary brake line from both. After that, unplug the four chassis lines from the HCU and take out the nut and bolt that attaches the HCU bracket to the chassis. Carefully take out the HCU with the bracket from the vehicle, next remove the three ABM bolts holding the ABM to the HCU and lastly separate the ABM from the HCU. If getting a replacement ABM, use the scan tool to reprogram it, if needed. Fit new seals between the ABM and the HCU, place the ABM onto the HCU and screw them together with the three bolts, checking that each is tightened to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.). Place the HCU with the bracket onto the vehicle and screw in the two nuts, plug the HCU into the electrical connector and install the four lines at the HCU. Set the secondary brake tube at the HCU and master cylinder next, then install the primary tube at the same location. After that, attach the negative battery cable, lift away the brake pedal prop rod, bleed the master and ABS brakes cylinders and start the ABS module with the scan tool.
