2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Faulty or Damaged Air Bag on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First, cut off the negative cable from the battery and wait peacefully for two minutes so that the system's capacitor discharges. Move the steering wheel to get to the fasteners and then remove the screws that join the driver air bag to the steering wheel armature. Remove the driver air bag by pulling on it so you can unplug the jumper harness connector for the horn switch, cruise control and remote radio from the back of the air bag. Remove the integral lock by pulling it straightly out of the connector insulator, then unlock the air bag inflators by straightly removing the insulators. After removing the driver air bag from the steering wheel, change the Steering Control Module (SCM)/Clock Spring, if the air bag has been deployed. When installing, set the driver air bag above the steering wheel and link all electrical connectors, each with an audible snap. Place the air bag in the steering wheel, check that it is not pinched by any wire and once installed, use a 2N/90 inch-lb driver to tighten the two screws on the mounting armature to 10 N.m (90 in. lbs.). Only connect the battery negative cable after the supplemental restraint system verification test is done, following any servicing of the system.
