2006 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing the air bag Control Module, first turn off the supplemental restraint system by unplugging and isolating the battery negative cable and wait two minutes so that the system capacitor discharges. Remove the center console by unlatching it from the top of the floor panel transmission tunnel while being careful with the ACM cover. Pull slightly on the latch tabs to lift the cover and then push the release tab downward and lift the arm on both wire harness connectors on the ACM. Remove the ACM by undoing the three screws on the bracket welded to the bottom of the transmission tunnel. Install the new ACM by turning its arrow to the front so the pin lines up with the mounting hole on the bracket. Use the three ACM screws and tighten them to 11 N.m or 8 ft. lbs. Do not connect the wire harness connectors to the ACM until their latches are opened and re-attach when the latches are securely engaged. Put on the ACM cover, check that both latches are snapped and install the console as you did before. It is important to only connect the negative battery cable after performing the supplemental restraint system verification test following service to any portion of the system.
