Q: How to Replace Components of the Occupant Detection Sensor in the Passenger Side Front Seat Cushion on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: If parts in the passenger side seat cushion's Occupant Classification System (OCS) are damaged, they must be replaced as a whole, specially assembled and adjusted package with the OCM calibrated automatically. When you set up this package, exchange every existing part all at once without removing any of the new OCS items and avoid using any part that you have replaced. Should any original parts, apart from the OCM, be swapped out, the service for the OCM requires changing the entire front seat cushion unit with a service replacement package. To handle any swap or removal of these components, the OCM must first be re-calibrated using a diagnostic scanner, the Occupant Classification Seat Weight tool and the Occupant Classification System Verification Test. For your safety and to prevent deadly accidents, turn off the supplemental restraint system, disconnect the battery negative cable and then wait two minutes for the capacitor to discharge. The only parts you can service by themselves are the OCM and the seat cushion trim; all other parts are replaced as a set. No adjustments are allowed to the front passenger seat area or center console and all repairs should use components listed in the Mopar Catalog. Replace the OCM and ACM separately, since putting them both in at the same time can result in a permanent fault in both modules. To remove the seat, first take the battery negative cable out, wait until the capacitor is discharged, pull out the passenger side front seat, uninstall the seat assembly and remove the trim piece. Throw away the front seat cushion frame, springs, pad, bladder and pressure sensor, foam, wiring and OCM from the passenger side and fit the new service replacement package on them. Place the trim cover, the seat cushion assembly and the passenger side seat into the car. The negative battery cable should not be reattached until the aircraft is completely tested with both the diagnostic scan tool and the Occupant Classification Seat Weight special tool.
