2006 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before taking care of the side impact sensor, ensure your safety; disable your car's air bag system, disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable and at least two minutes will pass while the system stable. It's important not to strike or drop the side impact sensor, since this might lead to damage or calibration problems that would need it to be changed. Push your seat all the way to the front to reach the B-pillar and take off the lower trim panel there. Following this, get rid of the screw joining the side impact sensor to the lower B-pillar and break off the connector from the body cable at the sensor. Take out the old sensor, then set the new sensor just above where the lower B-pillar meets the roof, attach the body wire harness and confirm the anti-rotation pin fits into the clearance hole on the side of the B-pillar. Install the sensor with the preloaded screw until the torque is 11 N.m (100 in. lbs.), then remove the lower trim again. Only restore the negative battery cable after finishing the supplemental restraint system verification test after working on that system.
