2005 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Air Bag Control Module on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, break the negative connection from the battery and let the system capacitor discharge for two minutes before beginning the Air Bag Control Module service. Very carefully remove the center console from the top of the car's floor panel transmission tunnel, making sure not to break the ACM cover latches. Press down on the latch tabs till the ACM cover comes off easily. Press the tab on each wire harness connector to release them and pull up the lever arm. Take out the three screws that hold the ACM to the bracket where it's attached to the floor panel and then remove the ACM. Align ACM with the bracket and ensure the forward arrow on the ACM label is opposite the locating pin which should click into place in the bracket. Fasten the ACM to the engine with the three screws, making sure they are 11 N.m (8 ft.lbs.) or a little more tight. Open up the lever arms on the connectors of the wire harness before connecting those wires to the ACM. Place the ACM cover over the screen, tightening both latch straps and snap it into place with the center console. Do not reconnect the negative battery terminal cable until the supplemental restraint system verification test has been done after working on any part of that system.
