2008 Jeep Commander A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install an A/C Accumulator on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Before fitting the A/C accumulator, adjust the refrigerant oil to protect the A/C system and stop the compressor. If your A/C compressor just broke internally, swap out the A/C accumulator to prevent more harm. Consult the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart whenever you are replacing more than one A/C unit component. After just replacing the A/C accumulator, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the suggested refrigerant oil. Whenever you remove a refrigerant line, change its O-ring seal or gasket to ensure it does not leak. Put the A/C accumulator into its place in the engine compartment, remove any tape or blockages from the connections between the accumulator and the condenser and use clean refrigerant oil to glide the dual-plane seal in place on the accumulator prior to installation. Screw the A/C accumulator onto the right end of the A/C condenser and fasten it with a nut that's been tightened to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Fasten the screw that connects the A/C accumulator to the radiator and fan shroud, leaving it at a 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.) torque. Coat a new dual-plane seal with oil, place it over the A/C liquid line and secure the line to the A/C accumulator using a nut tightened to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Install the housing and air intake tube for the air cleaner and then place the grille. After reconnecting the negative battery cable, empty the refrigerant into the refrigerant machine and if you are replacing the A/C accumulator, include 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of oil. Then evacuate the system, dry it and charge it with the correct type of refrigerant.
