2008 Jeep Commander Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Heater Core in the HVAC Air Distribution Housing on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Gently insert the heater core into the passenger side of the air distribution housing for the HVAC system. Uncover the heater core ports and put the tubes in position if you removed them due to the rough look. Use clean engine fluid to oil the rubber O-rings, attach them to the heater core tubes and only use the recommended special rubber O-ring for engine coolants. Connect the heater core tubes to the heater core and use bolt 7 to hold them in place, ensuring it's tight. Attach screw 3 to help secure the heater core tube retaining bracket 5 to the HVAC housing 6, giving it an operation torque of 2.2 Nm or 20 in. lbs. For cars with dual zone heating-A/C, put blend door actuator 1 into the passenger side opening of the HVAC air distribution housing. Then, place the heater core and tube cover 2 into the HVAC housing 3 and attach it using five screws 1, tightening them to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Replace the instrument panel and, if unplugged, attach the heater hoses to the heater core tubes within the engine compartment. Then, attach the negative battery cable, flush the cooling system when the heater core is being replaced and fill the new coolant back into the engine.
