2009 Dodge Viper A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Clutch on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: The first step in servicing the A/C compressor clutch is to cut off and separate the negative battery cable. Take off the accessory drive belt before you raise and support the vehicle. Disconnect the wire harness for the engine from the A/C clutch coil connector located at the top of the A/C compressor. Unscrew the bolts holding the A/C compressor onto the engine and make sure to support the compressor. Lift the A/C clutch coil connector and the wire lead from the connector bracket. Close the compressor shaft by using a strap wrench or band wrench while holding the clutch plate. Don't separate the clutch plate from the pulley and bearing assembly, because doing so could damage the clutch plate. Be sure not to let any clutch shim(s) fall out during the removal of the clutch plate, as they might help with reassembly. Gently strike the clutch plate a few times with a plastic mallet to let it off the spline on the shaft and then take out the clutch plate and any shims present. You can remove the snap ring using the A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 and once it is out, slide the pulley and bearing assembly off the front of the A/C compressor. After that, use A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 (or similar) to evacuate the snap ring that holds the A/C clutch coil to the front of the A/C compressor, then take off the coil.
