2009 Dodge Viper Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Extract an Evaporator from an A/C System on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: First, turn off the air bag system on any equipped vehicle by disconnecting the negative battery, then wait two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to discharge before removing the A/C evaporator. This is a necessary safety measure because air bag deployment by accident can injure you severely. The HVAC housing must be disassembled in order to replace the A/C evaporator. The first thing to do is take the HVAC housing out of the car and put it down on a bench. Following that, remove the foam seal; if it won't return to its original shape, you need a replacement. Take out the bracket and screw that hold the evaporator tubes to the outside of the HVAC casing. Remove the cover around the HVAC and pull the evaporator from the bottom section. Should the need arise, take out the insulator from the A/C evaporator and check to see if any parts of it are damaged; if so, change the insulator.
