You should begin by unattaching the negative cable from the battery and removing the right side air inlet tube when servicing the alternator. Beware, because the spring-loaded accessory drive belt tensioner pulley can release with enough force to injure your hand if not handled correctly. After removing the belt, either pull the tensioning pulley counterclockwise to lock the belt, pin it in place or release it carefully after making sure the belt has come off. Following this step, take out the upper generator bolt (2) and the lower generator bolt (3) and then relocate the generator to get to its harness connectors. Lift off the rubber cover on the generator B+ cable nut (5), then disconnect the generator's B+ cable and return harness connectors (4) from the back of the unit before taking out the generator (1). Installation of the generator's B+ cable needs you to first join it with the retaining nut from the generator side and the connector from the harness side, then tighten the nut with 15 N.m (11 ft. lbs.) torque. Attach the cap onto the generator B+ cable nut (5), put the generator (1) into the bracket, use the generator mounting bolts to fit the generator and tighten them to 42 N.m (31 ft. lbs.). Secure all pulleys after installing correctly, then add the accessory drive belt and last, the right side air inlet tube.
