- Q:How to remove and install Starter on Chrysler Cirrus?A:If this is the location of the four-cylinder engine, start by removing the negative cable from the ground stud at the 'left shock tower' and then the air cleaner assembly. For vehicles with automatic transaxles, remove TCM from its location but do not remove the electrical connector. Subsequently, take out the upper mounting bolt of the starter motor, then elevate the front portion of the car on jack stands safely, label and disconnect the wire which is connected to the starter motor solenoid and while supporting the starter motor, take out the lower mounting bolt and pull out the starter motor. For installation reverse the above mentioned steps and make sure that the mounting bolts of the starter motor are tightened to the prescribed torque. On a V6: first unscrew the negative battery terminal from the ground stud located on the left shock tower, second, raise the front end of the car securely with jackstands. and if necessary, the oil filter should be removed, then the wires should be disconnected from the starter motor solenoid and supporting the starter motor the three bolts that secures the starter motor to the transaxle bellhousing should be removed to take out the starter motor. Installation is done in the reverse order being careful to tighten the starter motor mounting bolts to a recommended torque.
- Q:What should you do if a malfunction occurs in the starting circuit and Starter on Chrysler PT Cruiser?A:Malfunctions in the starting circuit should not necessarily immediately be blamed on the starter. If the starter turns over slowly, touch voltage probe to the starter terminal and measure the cranking voltage If the voltage limit is approached or reached, measure the current draw from the battery. Sometimes, starters fail to activate although there is power supply to the starter If this is the case, you should remove the starter/ solenoid assembly, take it to the bench as the solenoid might be bad. At times check that the engine is not seized by trying to turn the crankshaft pulley. When inspecting of the starter/solenoid assembly, first attach the clips of the jumper cables to the battery and then apply current to the terminal of the solenoid and examine the functioning of the solenoid plunger as well as the pinion drive to establish if the assembly is good or not.
