Service or repair of the clutch release fork requires the removal of the transmission and transfer case if the vehicle is so equipped. After that, remove the spring clip (6) and safely remove the release bearing (4) from the release lever (3) before you get the bearing out. Look at the bearing slide surface on the transmission front retainer and change the retainer if it feels scored, worn, broken, cracked or warped. Check the release lever (2) and pivot stud (1) at the front and back side of the fork bottom to make sure the stud is stable and the lever is not twisted or damaged; if fork spring clips are bent or damaged at the steering head, replace them. Apply Mopar high temperature bearing grease to the input shaft splines, the bearing retainer side that slides, pivot stud (1) and the release lever pivot surface. Put the release fork and release bearing in place, using the spring clips to make sure they are held firmly and with the release lever raised so that the bump on its top is against the slave cylinder part of the transmission. Once all measurements are made, replace the transmission and transfer case throughout the vehicle.

Make sure the clutch hydraulic tube is close to the dash panel, behind all its wiring and engine hoses, before installing the clutch release fork. Put a little grease on the inside of the master push rod, insert the clutch master cylinder into its bracket and tighten the nuts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). After that, set the clutch master cylinder push rod pin (3) in place and mount the clutch pedal position interlock switch connector (2). Hold the hydraulic line in place by clipping one plastic clip to the lower flange on the dash panel and the other to the upper stud. Holding the vehicle up still, fit the slave cylinder (2) at its proper place, ensure the rod is seated properly in the release lever and tighten the slave cylinder nuts (1) to an air torque setting of 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). If you're installing new clutch linkage, link the clutch hydraulic line to the clutch slave cylinder, reminding yourself not to take apart the line once connected. After that, place the heat shield over the hydraulic line and use the linkage several times to make sure everything is working properly.
