First, separate the serpentine drive belt from the compressor and afterwards disconnect and isolate the battery from the car. Disconnect the compressor clutch coil wire harness connector and unbolt the clutch plate along with the shims, hitting it gently with a plastic hammer if it won't come off. Don't try to separate the clutch plate and pulley, as this can be damaging. Following this, get rid of the compressor clutch pulley retaining snap ring by using snap ring pliers, then use a 3 jaw puller and a shaft protector # 2134A to properly detach the clutch pulley assembly from the compressor without harming anything. Pull the screw and retainer off the lead wire harness on the clutch coil on the front side of the compressor, then separate the connections between the thermal limiter switch and the clutch harness on the compressor. Make sure the clutch field coil assembly is straight in the housing and pull the snap ring from it, then remove the whole assembly. Position the clutch field coil's back against the front of the compressor so the pin aligns with the indentation. Be sure the bevel edge of the clutch snap ring is facing out and install it all the way in to avoid the clutch failing. Snap the lead wire harness retaining clip onto the clutch coil wire, tighten the screw and finally connect the two compressor clutch leads. Link the clutch pulley assembly to the compressor so that you don't touch the friction surface and secure the assembly with the snap ring with the bevel facing outwards. Smaller-than-needed spacers should be attached to the compressor shaft, aligned carefully with the clutch and after that, the clutch plate should be installed. Attach the external side front rotor snap ring, so the bevel part points away and see that it rests in place correctly. Check the distance between the clutch plate and pulley face using a feeler gauge and put or remove shims as needed to obtain a gap of 0.35 to 0.65 millimeter. Check the air gap again after tightening the compressor shaft nut to 17.7 Nm. Put the drive belt on the serpentine belt and connect the negative side of the battery cable. Following installation, run the clutch twenty times with the controls set to recirculation mode, the motor at its greatest speed and the engine between 1500 and 2000 rpm to help seat the clutch and increase its torque ability.
