How to Maintain a Wiper Arm on the Liftgate on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

To service the rear liftgate wiper arm, first use a trim stick C-4755 or an equivalent to release the plastic cap from the pivot end of the arm. After that, unscrew the nut that connects the rear wiper arm to the wiper motor, being careful not to use a battery terminal puller that could harm the arm. With a little back and forth movement, disconnect the rear wiper arm from the output shaft. Before you begin installing the motor, turn the ignition all the way On, press Off on the rear wiper switch and wait for the output shaft to stop moving; only then turn the ignition switch back to Off. Press the rear wiper arm into place against the rubber rear wiper arm park ramp and then attach it to the motor output shaft while the motor is in park. When the arm is in the proper position, squeeze the pivot hole over the shaft and insert and tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.). Spray water on the rear window and use the rear wiper, turn the switch to the Off position and ensure the wiper arm is in the right spot. Reattach the plastic cap to the end of the rear wiper arm that pivots.
