2006 Chrysler Pacifica Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Remove and Install Parking Brake Shoes on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Before removing the parking brake shoes, lock the automatic adjuster on the parking brake lever and raise and support the vehicle. Get rid of the rear hub and bearing first, then undo the parking brake cable bolt at the knuckle. At this point, move the parking brake adjustment all the way out, remove the parking brake shoe adjuster spring, the shoe adjuster, upper brake shoe hold-down clip, pin and the lower brake shoe hold-down clip and pin. After that, take out the upper and lower shoes plus the return spring from the shoe actuator. Install the return spring first between the upper and lower shoes, with the hook on the actuator aimed outward and carrying the word UP. After that, fit the upper and lower shoes with the return spring onto the shoe actuator. Push the pin for the lower hold-down through the rear of the support and lower shoe, secure the corresponding clip and go on to repeat for the upper brake shoe. After that, slide the shoe adjuster with the star wheel pointing up and then fit the parking brake shoe adjuster spring. Use the bolt to hold the parking brake cable in place at the knuckle and tighten it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) torque. Obtain the inside diameter measurement of the parking brake area on the rotor using Brake Shoe Gauge, Special Tool C-3919 or a substitute and set the gauge over the widest area of the parking brake shoes. Using the adjuster on the star wheel, bring the linings of the two shoe adjusters so they just almost touch the jaws of the gauge. After that, add the hub and bearing to the wheel speed sensor and all vital parts, lower the vehicle, bypass the auto adjuster on the parking brake lever and check the final calibration of the shoes.
