2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Washer Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Washer Pump on a Right-Hand Drive on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: You must start by opening the hood, unplugging the battery's negative cable, to fix the windshield washer pump motor on a vehicle with the steering wheel on the right. With a trim stick (special tool #C-4755) loosen and remove the wiper arm nut cap then the retaining nut. Lift the arm off its pivot from the over/centered position, using a rocking movement and next, remove both cowl covers at once as the left side overlaps the right. Take away the seal behind the rear of the car and the three pushes that hold the cover on the right side cowl. Then, come away with the three screws holding the reservoir, separate the connector for the pump and disconnect each washer hose. Pull the washer reservoir out of the cowl and pour the old fluid into a bucket below. Handle the pump carefully while peeling it from the reservoir's grommet, so you don't damage the reservoir and then remove the rubber grommet too. Whenever you remove or put in the pump, install a fresh grommet to keep leaks from occurring. Put the grommet into the reservoir, insert the pump through it and give it a good snap. Put the reservoir in the cowl area and connect the washer hoses, so the white hose stays on the white side of the pump and the black hose goes on the black side. Affix the wire from the pump to its connector and then attach and torque the three large retaining screws in the reservoir at 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). Tuck the right cover inside and install all four of the push retainers, then continue with the engine compartment seal in the back. After activating the wiper system so the wiper module is in PARK, align the tips of both wiper arms with the park line on the glass before you fasten them. Suspend the arm in its over/centered (center-top) position and secure it with the wiper arm retaining nut, tightening it to 21 Nm (190 in. lbs). After, add the wiper arm nut cap. After that, attach the battery's negative cable once more, shut the hood and confirm the vehicle and its systems are working.
