Chrysler PT Cruiser Washer Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is the Washer Pump Installed on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
Whenever you install or remove the pump, be sure to use a new grommet so the reservoir does not leak. Put in the reservoir's new grommet first, then feed the pump through it. Fix the plastic strap to the handle, then push it tightly inside the reservoir to secure the pump. Set the reservoir where the cowl will be and make sure the washer hose marked with a white stripe goes to the white pump port and the black hose to the black port. Then, secure the pump wire to the connector and add the three retaining screws to the reservoir, torquing them to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). After placing the cowl cover into position, fasten it with four push retainers and fit the rear engine compartment seal at the cowl. Turn on the arms of the front wipers before attaching them, for the wiper module to be set in the PARK mode and set the wipers so that the tips follow the park line on the windshield. Start with the over/centered Wiper Arm position, add the wiper arm retaining nut and torque to 21 Nm (190 in. lbs.) and then finish with the wiper arm nut cap. Then, connect the negative battery terminal, put the hood back down and check that everything is running smoothly.
  • Q: How to Remove the Washer Pump on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
To take out the washer pump, open the hood and take off the negative terminal of the battery. Gently lift the Wiper Arm nut cap off with a trim stick (C-4755 or an equal tool) and also remove the retaining nut. Use the arm to rock the pivot as you keep it in an over/centered position. Loosen the rear engine compartment seal at the cowl and also remove all four push retainers holding the right side cowl cover. Afterward, take out the three screws holding the reservoir, remove the plug from the pump and unscrew the washer hose. Following that, remove the Washer Reservoir and pour the dirty water into a bucket. Break the plastic strap, pry the pump from the reservoir, lift it out and then take away the rubber grommet.
