2005 Dodge Dakota Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely and Correctly Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Be sure to turn off the supplemental restraint system by detaching the battery's negative cable and letting the capacitor in the system discharge for at least two minutes. Don't ever strike or drop the Occupant Restraint Controller, because that module contains the sensor important for the air bag system, making it necessary to replace it if it is damaged. It is important not to change out both the Occupant Restraint Controller and the Occupant Classification Module at once, because this will cause a fault that cannot be fixed. Unplug the negative side of your car battery and then remove the connection between the instrument panel and body wire harness connectors and the Occupant Restraint Controller. Pull the red lock to the left and press the latch tab to let go of the connector. After that, lift out the instrument panel, the floor duct and the nuts holding the Occupant Restraint Controller to the ORC mount on the floor and remove the ORC. Put the Occupant Restraint Controller on the studs of the ORC mount so that the arrow on the sticker points in front and the side with the connector receptacles is on the left. Put the three nuts into the holes in the ORC and tighten them to 6 N.m (50 in. lbs.), afterwards install the disconnected floor duct and instrument panel. Correctly connect the wire harnesses to the ORC, press all the latches and red locks on the CPA before doing so and do not reconnect the negative battery cable before the supplemental restraint system check is done after finishing any repairs.
