2005 Dodge Dakota Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Brake Master Cylinder on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, push the brake pedal five times to remove all the air from the booster and after that, siphon and remove the fluid from the reservoir. Move the electrical connector for the low fluid level and then place a towel or rag under the brake master cylinder outlet port area to guard the vehicle against damage from brake fluid. Take the brake lines off the brake master cylinder and remove the four mounting nuts. As you take out the engine assembly from the booster, make sure to hold it level with the front of the booster so it doesn't get in the way of the booster output rod. Before installing the new brake master cylinder, bleed it first. Fasten the output rod of the brake booster in the right spot and secure it with an output rod retaining ring to ensure it can fit inside the brake master cylinder plunger sleeve as you put it in the vehicle. At the shoulder leading into the brake master cylinder flange and on the cylinder neck, check for a vacuum seal. After you've properly installed the booster, set the brake master cylinder into place on the studs, making sure the plunger is above the output rod. After installing the new mounting nuts, tighten them to 10 Nm; after that, set in the brake lines and tighten them to 19 Nm. Link the low fluid level switch's electrical connector back, then fill and bleed the base brake system.
