2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain an A/C Condenser on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To work on the HVAC condenser, start by removing the refrigerant and disconnecting the cable from the battery's negative terminal. Removing the air filter, housing and tube is needed, but you should not remove the hood latch. Then, take away the upper radiator crossmember and its bracket, remove the power steering fluid cooler if needed or position it differently if it's not being replaced. Cut off the automatic transmission cooler lines from the transmission fluid cooler and securely cover both sets of fittings and ports on the cooler with tape or plugs. Remove the cap on the A/C discharge line, unscrew the receiver/drier from the radiator and fan shroud and remove the drier inlet tube from the condenser. Unbolt the four attachment points between the A/C condenser and radiator and lift the condenser gently from the engine compartment. Whenever you replace the A/C condenser, pour about 30 milliliters of the proper refrigerant oil into the refrigerant system. Install the new A/C condenser on the radiator and tighten the four bolts with 5 N.m force. Next, join the A/C condenser to the receiver/drier with an inlet tube, secure these with a screw and tighten the screw to 5 N.m. Next, reattach the A/C discharge line, remove all tape or plugs from the automatic transmission cooler line fittings and fluid cooler ports and join the lines to the automatic transmission cooler. Replace the power steering fluid cooler, upper radiator crossmember, support bracket, air filter housing, air inlet tube and grille. Engage the negative battery cable again, drain all the refrigerant, fill back in a fresh charge and check the automatic transmission fluid, adding more if required.
