2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an A/C Condenser on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step to servicing an HVAC condenser is to remove the refrigerant and unconnect the negative battery cable. Take out the grille, air filter housing and air inlet tube, while keeping the hood latch attached to the radiator crossmember. After that, remove the upper radiator crossmember and its support bracket and if the vehicle has a 3.0L diesel engine, remove the charge air cooler. For some applications, remove the power steering fluid cooler and for others, just put it somewhere safe and out of the way. Take the cooler lines from the automatic transmission off the fluid cooler and plug or tape up the cooler line fittings and cooler ports. Separate the A/C condenser from the discharge line, let go of the screw holding the receiver/drier to the radiator and fan shroud and take apart the drier inlet tube from the condenser. Lift off the four bolts that hold the A/C condenser to the radiator and carefully remove the condenser straight up from the engine area. After putting in a new A/C condenser, add 30 milliliters of oil known to work with your A/C compressor. Place the new A/C condenser over the radiator and tighten the four bolts to 5 N.m. Join the receiver/drier inlet tube with the A/C condenser and tighten the screw between the receiver/drier and the radiator/fan shroud to the same setting. Finally, attach the A/C discharge line, remove the tape or plugs from the automatic transmission cooler line fittings and fluid cooler ports and complete the automatic transmission cooler connections to the transmission fluid cooler. Refit the power steering fluid cooler, the charge air cooler if you have one, upper radiator crossmember, support bracket, air filter housing, air inlet tube and grille. Connect the negative battery cable, remove any refrigerant from the vehicle's system, add refrigerant back in and finally check the automatic transmission fluid level.
