2006 Chrysler Pacifica Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain Your Brake Pads on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: First, lift and hold the vehicle and then remove both rear tires and wheels to change the brake pads. Work on both sides of the vehicle when removing the roof. Lower the piston slightly to allow space for caliper removal if the caliper can't move aside from the rotor. Usually, taking the caliper away from the guide pins at the front while easing the rear part out can do the trick, making sure not to press directly on the piston. After that, unscrew the two caliper guide pin bolts and move the caliper away from the adapter by twisting it from the bottom and lifting it up. Hanging the caliper from the vehicle using wire or cord is a way to protect the brake hose. To remove the outboard brake shoe, push it clear of the caliper fingers, lift it from the wheel and to remove the inboard one, pull it clear of the caliper piston. While doing the installation, make the caliper piston come in all the way to guarantee sufficient clearance between the shoe and the rotor. Set the inboard shoe retainer clip over the piston cavity and push it until it snaps into the groove, so the backing plate is even with the piston. The spring clip on the outboard brake shoes should be face down. Put the outboard brake shoe locating pins against the ramps of the caliper fingers and place the shoe onto the caliper until the pins are properly seated. Make sure the shims are fitted on both slide abutments of the caliper adapter and remember not to damage the guide pin bushings while assembling the caliper. Withdraw the caliper guide pins to give access to the mounting bosses. Now place the brake caliper over the rotor, align it with the adapter and attach it without crossing the guide pins. Secure the guide pins in the caliper with 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) of torque, next install the tire and wheel assembly and tighten the wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Set the vehicle down slowly, hit the brake pedal several times to test the firmness, check and top up the brake fluid when required and do a short drive to wear the brakes appropriately and let the brakes shoes fit correctly.
