2006 Jeep Commander A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Begin the process by emptying the A/C system of refrigerant and learning the battery to cut off power. Unscrew the air intake tube and resonator and pull off the nut securing the air conditioning suction line and air conditioning liquid line to the air conditioning expansion valve. Pull the lines apart and throw the seals away, making sure you cover and tape the ends of the refrigerant lines and set them outside the system. Then, remove the two bolts holding the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block and extract the valve, throwing away the O-ring seals. Later, disconnect the tape or plugs from the evaporator tube fittings and the expansion valve ports, coat the new O-ring seals with clean lubricating oil for the compressor and install them onto the fittings. Set up the A/C expansion valve at the evaporator tube tapping block and prepare for removal by centering its opening onto the tapping hole. Use the two bolts to lock it and tighten each to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.). Pack off the tape or plugs from the A/C suction line and the A/C liquid line, add some clean refrigerant oil to the O-ring seals, then add them to these lines. hook the A/C suction and liquid lines up to the A/C expansion valve, attach with the nut and tighten it using a nut driver to 17 ft. lbs. When done, place the air intake tube and resonator back, rejoin the negative battery cable, remove all the refrigerant from the system and put it back in.
