2006 Jeep Liberty A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an A/C Accumulator on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Begin the A/C accumulator service by loosening the negative battery connection and regaining all the refrigerant from the vehicle's system. Unhook the wire lead and connector from the A/C low pressure switch and pull out the switch from the A/C accumulator. Take out the two nuts that hold the accumulator bracket to the dash panel. In LHD models, loosen and move the secondary retaining clip on the suction line spring-lock coupler and then with the correct A/C line disconnect tool, loosen the rear A/C suction line from the outlet of the evaporator. On RHD models, separate the nut holding the rear A/C suction line to the evaporator and then unhook the line. Unscrew the nuts at the rear and front connectors, disconnect the lines to the A/C accumulator and set them down. Take out the whole housing and bracket for the A/C as a set from the engine compartment. If you have to, then separate the bracket from the accumulator. Replace the O-rings and close all fittings with either a stopper or cover them with tape. When you replace the A/C accumulator, be sure to add 120 milliliters of recommended refrigerant oil to the system. Each time a refrigerant line is opened, change the O-ring seals to stop possible leaks. If removed, thread the A/C accumulator through the accumulator bracket and keep the assembly in the engine compartment. Remove old tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line openings, lube new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and fit them over the opened line fittings, using the right O-rings for the R-134a system. Clean the ports of the A/C accumulator, attach the suction lines and cinch the retaining nuts to 12.5 N.m. For these models, join the spring-lock coupler to the A/C evaporator and fasten the secondary retaining clip. On RHD cars, route the A/C suction line from the rear to the A/C evaporator and secure it with a nut, applying 12.5 N.m. Then, tighten the two nuts of the accumulator bracket on the dash panel to 4.5 N.m. After removing the old A/C low pressure switch, put the new one on the accumulator along with a new O-ring and hand tighten the switch. Insert the wire lead and connector into the A/C low pressure switch, connect the negative cable to the battery again, eliminate all the refrigerant from the system and recharge it.
