2006 Jeep Liberty A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before removing the A/C condenser, take these steps in order, connect the negative battery cable, remove the refrigerant and then unplug the cable. Release the nuts keeping the A/C discharge and liquid lines attached to the condenser, unhook the lines from the condenser and throw away their O-ring seals. Place plugs in all the opened line fittings and cover the condenser ports with tape. After that, take out the grille, upper radiator crossmember and free the grille opening reinforcement from the body. If you have the 2.8L diesel engine, remove the condenser fan assembly. For vehicles with coolers, undo the cooler connections and take out the mounting bolts from the automatic transmission cooler to the radiator, leaving it off to the side. Take out the bolts holding the upper A/C condenser to the radiator, then gently lift the A/C condenser straight up to unhook the brackets on the bottom and move it away from the engine compartment. Remember, the refrigerant oil level needs to be adjusted for installation because it protects the A/C compressor from damage. If the system requires only an A/C condenser replacement, inject about a shot glass full of the appropriate refrigerant oil into the system. All radiator and condenser air seals should be properly installed. Put the A/C condenser into the engine compartment, join the lower brackets to the radiator and install the upper brackets with bolts tightened to 5 N.m. Once the cooler is there, fasten it to the radiator and tighten the retaining bolts to 5 N.m. Restore the transmission cooler lines if they are present and attach the under hood condenser fan assembly if you have the 2.8L diesel engine. After repositioning the top of the grille opening reinforcement, insert the retaining bolts and put in the upper radiator crossmember and grille. Carefully remove the tape and plugs from the refrigerant and condenser connections, apply clean refrigerant oil to any new rubber seals and fit the O-rings that came with the system into your refrigerant line fittings. Fit the A/C liquid line to the A/C condenser and tighten with the retaining nuts to 22.5 N.m. Reconnect the battery's negative cable and evacuate the system, if the condenser is being changed, add 30 milliliters of refrigerant oil. If several system parts are being replaced, first look up the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to know how much oil to use and then charge the refrigerant system.
