How to Service and Repair a Sway Bar Bushing on Dodge Ram 1500?

Before repairing the sway bar bushing, take out the control arm bushing with tools 8682-2 (adapter), 8682-3 (receiver) and 8682-4 (driver), together with the threaded rod and the two bearings. Before working, take out the crossmember and support it in a vise. After that, coat the threaded parts of the tool with heavy lubricant for better and lasting use. Make use of 8838, 8835-1, 8835-4 and 8835-3 tools to compress out the bushing. The lower control arm bushings in 2WD (LD) must be changed, because the bushings from HD 4X2 models are not replaceable. After you remove the lower control arm and put it in a vise, apply a lot of lubricant to the new lower arm. When working with large bushings, use the receiver (tool 8836-2), the spacer (tool 8836-4) and the driver (tool 8836-5), together with the threaded rod 8839 and the bearing. To fit the small bushing, take tool 8836-6, also use 8836-3 and 8836-2 together with the threaded rod 8839 and the bearing. Install Crossmember Bushing using tools 8835-2, 8835-4 and 8835-3 so the new bushing is put in, along with the bearing and threaded rod 8838 and remove the crossmember only when both sides have been installed correctly. Once you have reset the vehicle's ride height, do a wheel alignment. When fitting lower control arm bushings, use tools 8836-2, 8836-1 and 8836-4 together with bearing and threaded rod 8839 for the large fitting. For the small fitting, use tools 8836-7, 8836-2 and 8836-3 together with the bearing and threaded rod 8839. Bring the removed control arm out of the vise, place the lower one in its place, adjust the ride height and do a wheel alignment.

How to Service and Repair a Rear Sway Bar Bushing on Dodge Viper?

Service and repair of the mount usually go like this. Ensure the vehicle is raised by the proper method before beginning. Release the bolts holding the retainers to the frame and take out the sway bar bushing retainers from their bushings. Open the slit in each of the bushings with your choice of tool and remove them from the sway bar. After that, wipe down the area of the sway bar where the bushings join. Open the notch in every bushing and wrap each one over the sway bar with the ring facing downwards. After that, fix the bushing retainers to the bushings and attach the sway bar to the frame, fastening with retainer bolts to a torque level of 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Lower the vehicle so it's no longer lifting the front wheels off the ground.

Before repairing the sway bar bushing, take out the control arm bushing with tools 8682-2 (adapter), 8682-3 (receiver) and 8682-4 (driver), together with the threaded rod and the two bearings. Make use of 8838, 8835-1, 8835-4 and 8835-3 tools to compress out the bushing. The lower control arm bushings in 2WD (LD) must be changed, because the bushings from HD 4X2 models are not replaceable. After you remove the lower control arm and put it in a vise, apply a lot of lubricant to the new lower arm. Bring the removed control arm out of the vise, place the lower one in its place, adjust the ride height and do a wheel alignment.

Release the bolts holding the retainers to the frame and take out the sway bar bushing retainers from their bushings. Open the slit in each of the bushings with your choice of tool and remove them from the sway bar. After that, wipe down the area of the sway bar where the bushings join. Open the notch in every bushing and wrap each one over the sway bar with the ring facing downwards. After that, fix the bushing retainers to the bushings and attach the sway bar to the frame, fastening with retainer bolts to a torque level of 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Lower the vehicle so it's no longer lifting the front wheels off the ground.
