How to Detach the Front Shock Absorber on Dodge Challenger?

You should take off the top shock tower cap first, if your car has one, when removing the front shock absorber. Afterward, take out the three nuts that hold the shock assembly to the shock tower. Elevate the vehicle and free the nuts anchoring the wheel mounting nuts to remove both the assembly and tire. Remove the nut from the shock and slide the ball joint from inside the shock assembly. Take out the bolt that holds the shock assembly onto the lower control arm. Unclip the wheel speed sensor cable from its position to the brake tube bracket. Backing off the upper ball joint stud nut until it matches the end of its stud will protect the ball joint when you insert the Ball Joint Remover 9360. Place Ball Joint Remover 9360 into position over the seal boot so that it will break the stud connection between the upper ball joint and the knuckle. Draw the upper ball joint stud out of the housing, tip the top of the knuckle outside the strut while leaving space for the brake flex hose and remove the shock through the bottom of the knuckle from the car.

Before you remove the shock absorber, raise the car and place it on jack stands. After that, take out the wheel mounting nuts (3) and remove the tire and wheel assembly (1). Attach an under-hoist utility jack or jack stand under the outer link of the outer spring, making sure it doesn't fully rebound when the shock absorber bolts are removed. After that, remove both mounting bolts and nuts from the shock absorber: the lower mounting bolt (2) and nut (4), then remove the upper mounting bolts (2). Remove the shock absorber from the system as your last step.
