Break the connection between the negative terminal and the battery and drain the cooling system of the engine. Lift the car off the ground the use jack stands to support the car then remove the engine oil. Take off also the drivebelt, drivebelt tensioner and idler pulley; thermostat housing; upper radiator hose; heater hose which is on the water pump. Undo the heater core supply pipe fixings on the right side cylinder head and shift the pipes out of the way. Disconnect the hydraulic power steering pump and tie it with wire, also, unbolt the crankshaft balancer, and valve covers, and also lower and upper oil pans. Loosen the timing cover mounting bolts, then gently manage to pull out the cover from its place, and discard the coolant housing and water pump gaskets fixed at the back side of the timing cover. Place the crankshaft pulley and bolt temporarily and rotate the crankshaft to be at TDC of number one on the exhaust stroke to line the timing marks. Check that the camshaft phaser marks are in the correct position and that the phaser marks are lined up with plates that are put on the links to show the direction of rotation of all chains before you take them off. What bearing is placed bottom center and includes compressing the right and left side chain tensioners, also, removing the timing gear splash shield fasteners and taking out the oil pump tensioner and sprocket. Insert the camshaft phaser lock tools into the appropriate locations and release the holds on the oil control valves and then remove the camshaft phasers and the timing chains. Check timing chain dampener for wear, clean timing chain and sprockets, if necessary, replace them. Drive out the old gasket material from the cover, engine block, and cylinder heads then replace the chain Guides and tensioners. Make sure you slot the keyway on the crankshaft and that the camshafts are in the top dead center position. Slide the primary chain on the crankshaft sprocket, apply clean engine oil on the sprockets and the chain and then fit in the assembly for the alignment of the mark. Secure the idler sprocket in position and put on the primary chain guide and tensioner. Fit the intake and exhaust camshaft phasers and the oil control valves, in the correct direction. Torque the oil control valve to the prescribed value, fit the oil pump timing chain, tensioner, sprocket and splash shield and ensure all marks coincide. Turn the engine clockwise for two revolutions to align the marks of the phaser with the timing marks and to count 12 pins. If correct, then install coolant housing gasket, water pump housing gasket, apply RTV at the cover place and in the alignment dowels place, put the cover. It is advisable to tighten the cover bolts in a rotational pattern where one bolt is tightened then the opposite one, after which other components of the equipment are fitted in an opposite order to the one they were removed. Last of all, pump in the oil and the coolant, switch on the engine and inspect for any traces of leakage.
