2006 Chrysler Pacifica A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Before attempting to service or repair the expansion valve, remove the refrigerant from the system and move the negative battery cable from its position. Unplug the air cleaner housing, the air inlet tube and the drain tube from the end of the wiper module to the right of your car. Remove the wire harness connector from the A/C pressure transducer, then remove the screw holding the liquid line to the receiver/drier outlet and separate the two, throwing out the seal. Use tape or plugs to cover the openings in the liquid line fitting and the receiver/drier outlet port. After that, unscrew the nut holding the A/C expansion valve's suction line and liquid line fittings, take off the fittings and discard their seals. Open-ended lines, sodium-filled suction and liquid line fittings and both expansion valve ports should all be covered again. Separate the A/C expansion valve from the evaporator tube tapping plate by unscrewing both attached screws, take out the valve and off the two seals from the inlet and outlet tube fittings leaving both openings covered. During installation, pull away the tape or plugs from both ends of the evaporator tubes and from both ports on the back of the A/C expansion valve. Before attaching the finished A/C expansion valve, coat the newly installed rubber O-ring seals with clean oil and place them on the evaporator tube's inlet and outlet fittings. Screw in the two valve screws to a torque of 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.). Remove the tape or plugs from the section of the front liquid line at the rear as well as from the suction line fittings, grease the rubber seals with oil and set them on the ends of these fittings. Fit the hoses from the A/C liquid and suction lines onto the expansion valve and tighten them with a nut turned to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.). Uncover the rear section fitting and the receiver/drier outlet, cover the new rubber O-ring seal with oil and attach it to the liquid line before completing the connection to the receiver/drier port. Tighten the liquid line fitting screw to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.), link the wire harness connector to the A/C pressure transducer again and put the drain tube in place on the wiper module. Afterward, put in place the air cleaner housing and the air inlet tube, reconnect the negative battery cable, remove all the refrigerant and charge the system.
