- Q: How to install an A/C Accumulator on Jeep Grand Cherokee?A:You need to check that the refrigerant oil is adjusted correctly and the A/C system is not blocked before installing the A/C accumulator, because not doing this may cause a malfunction and damage to the compressor if it has already failed. Flowing a Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart will help you choose the right oil when changing several A/C parts. Should you replace only the A/C accumulator, also put in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the proper refrigerant oil. Always put new O-ring seals and gaskets in a refrigerant line when it is being opened to keep it from leaking. Set the accumulator in the engine compartment, free the accumulator fitting and port of any tape or plugs and do the same for the A/C condenser port. Select the proper seal, first soaking it in clean refrigerant oil and attach it to the accumulator fitting. Fit the accumulator onto the right side of the A/C condenser and cinch it in place with its nut, tightening it to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Hold the A/C accumulator against the radiator and fan shroud, then screw it onto the radiator and tighten it to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Pour some refrigerant oil onto a new second-stage seal and put it on the A/C line, then fasten the line to the cooler or accumulator with the nut and tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Attach the air cleaner housing and the air intake tube, after that reinstall the grille and substitute the negative battery cable. Remove all refrigerant, then put in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of oil if changing the A/C accumulator or see the chart for correct oil amounts if replacing several parts and add the oil.

After attaching the grille, connect the negative battery cable again; remove the refrigerant, add 1 fluid ounce of oil and then charge the refrigerant.
