- Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Washer Reservoir on Jeep Grand Cherokee?A:The first step to servicing or repairing the windshield washer reservoir is to cut off the battery negative cable. Pop off the air cleaner housing from the top of the left front fender wheel house. Split the two washer reservoir hoses from the three in-line connectors at the top of the left front fender wheel house. Twist off the washer reservoir filler cap and then slide the filler cap hinge away from the hook on the filler neck. Take out the screw that holds the washer reservoir filler neck attached to the left inner fender shield, then jack up the car at the back and remove the liner from the left front fender wheel house. Power off both left headlamp and dash wire harness plugs for the two washer pump/motor units from the pump/motor connector receptacles. Open the inspection panel by removing the two screws connecting the left front inner wheel house with the inboard flange of the washer reservoir. Draw on the washer reservoir at its bottom to open the left headlamp and dash wire harness and then disconnect the washer fluid level switch wire connection. Pull the lower edge of the reservoir further back to remove the outboard mounting tab from the fender shield slot. Turn the washer reservoir to clean the front suspension items and lower it until the filler neck is clear of the hole in the left front wheel house extension. When installing, place the washer reservoir in the front left fender wheel house, bring the filler neck up through the hole in the extension and rotate the tank so the inboard mounting flange covers the front suspension items. Pull the bottom of the reservoir toward the rear to link the outboard mounting tab with the front inner fender mountings, then find the reservoir's washer fluid level switch connector at the front and plug in the left headlamp and dash wire harness as you reassemble it. Put the screws in the left inner wheel house, secure them and torque them to 7.4 Nm (66 in. lbs., then reconnect the left headlamp and dash wire harness connectors for the two washer pump/motor units. Place the liner into the left front fender wheel house, bring the car down and secure the washer reservoir filler neck to the lower left of the fender shield with a tightening torque of 7.4 Nm (66 in. lbs.). Secure the filler neck hook to the loose hinge on the washer reservoir filler cap, push it in to close the cap and then link the two washer reservoir hoses to the engine compartment washer hoses at the inline connectors on the top of the left front fender wheel house. At the last step, attach the battery negative cable.
- Q: How to Maintain the Washer Reservoir on Jeep Wrangler?A:Before you start working on the reservoir, first unhook and isolate the battery negative cable. Bolt open the two screws and the bolt on the left front fender wheel house, then raise the reservoir to gain access to the washer pump/motor. Lift out the hose(s) from the barbed outlet nipple(s) of the washer pump/motor, opening the way for the fluid to drip into a clean jar. Remove the headlamp and dash wire from the front washer pump/motor connector and the rear body wire from the rear washer pump/motor connector if your car uses one. During installation, place the washer reservoir in its original position inside the engine compartment, fasten the washer pump/motor connection for the rear washer pump/motor and reconnect the front washer pump/motor connection from the headlamp and dash wire harness to the engine side. Reconnect the washer supply hose(s) to the barbed outlet nipples of the pump/motor unit(s), put the washer reservoir on the fender wheel house to the left of the car and tighten the three screws, measuring 4 Nm (35 in. lbs.). After that, put in fresh washer fluid and reconnect the negative battery cable.
