Brake Pad in Chrysler PT Cruiser automobiles are part of the braking system, made to halt the automobiles by grinding on rotating brake rotors. Such pads are usually produced using metals and some other synthetic material that can handle heats produced by systems that make use of brakes. The brake pads have steel backing plates and the friction material which goes to the rotor to sensibly generate the necessary friction for the braking. Brake pads are of different categories, namely non- metallic, semi metallic, fully metallic, and ceramic brake pads; each with its characteristic features providing different operation of a car. The brake pads also require constant replacement and proper regularity; the car manufacturing companies install wear sensors to inform drivers about the time of replacement. Further, there is a need to select the most appropriate brake pads if at all there will not be incidences of brake fade, among other problems like excessive rotor wear.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace Brake Pads on the Rear Wheels on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
Before changing the rear brake pads, lift and support the vehicle. Remove the wheel mounting nuts and after that remove the tire and wheel together. There are times when you should withdraw the caliper piston just enough so there is room for the pads to clear the rotor; doing this does not press on the piston and may be done by gently tugging the rear of the caliper. Then, remove the two caliper guide pin bolts and pull the caliper assembly up from the brake adapter by turning it away from the rotor and lifting it off the bottom machined guide on the adapter. Hook up the Brake Caliper to the rear strut with wire or cord so that you don't damage the brake hose. The outboard brake pad is fastened to the caliper by a retaining clip which you can pull by hand over the raised area. Slowly pull the inboard brake pad torward you until the clip comes out from inside the caliper piston and then take out the pad.
  • Q: How to Install Brake Pads for the BR4 Performance Brake System on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
During installation, be sure that the new brake components are original items made for the BR4 Performance Brake System, as attaching them to other brake systems is not approved. As part of the installation, open every caliper and fully move the piston to the end of its bore which helps align the pads with the rotors. After that, press the inboard brake pad into the caliper piston until it is securely positioned against it. Place the outboard brake pad into the caliper so that the retaining clip is straight and secure on the caliper's depressed area well past the retaining bead. Apply a generous amount of Mopar(R) Multipurpose Lubricant or a similar product to the adapter caliper slide abutments and be careful when installing the caliper that you don't damage the guide pin bushings and sleeves. On the lower part, move the front of the caliper and pads onto the brake rotor and fit the caliper's bottom under the caliper slide abutment. After that, move the top of the caliper onto the upper abutment and keep going. Place the caliper guide pin bolts securely, not forcefully, until they reach 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.). Once the rim clamp is installed, attach the whole tire and wheel and make sure the wheel nuts are fastened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Bring the car down, push the brake pedal several times to test its firmness and then drive it to let it brake several times to seat the brake pads.
