For 2.7L engines, first take out the negative cable from the remote jumper terminal and remove all the coolant from the system. Hoist up the car and after that, take out the right front wheel and belt splash shield. After that, take off the two accessory drive belts and the bolt that holds the generator in place. Position the wiring harness and then lower the car and remove the electrical connectors from the generator, AC clutch and AC pressure sensor. Make sure the hole in the oil pan is blocked by a water-tight stopper after removing the dipstick and tube, since coolant in the oil pan could harm your engine. Once done, take off the remaining bolts that secure the generator and remove it. Loosen the tube mounting bolt after the radiator hose, move on to unlatch the clamps at the thermostat housing and then take off the bolts to remove the thermostat and housing.

Make sure to clean both the mating areas of the timing chain cover and the thermostat housing before installing the engine coolant thermostat on a 3.7L/4.7L engine. Afterwards, set the thermostat (number 3) inside the groove on the timing chain cover (number 4), making sure the spring faces toward the bottom. When installing housing, use the same force everywhere and put the thermostat in the sticking groove exactly in the middle to avoid damaging the housing, reusing the threads or allowing coolant to leak. Place the thermostat housing onto the timing chain cover, insert the bolts and tighten them up to 13 Nm (112 in. lbs.). After that, set the lower radiator hose onto the thermostat housing and fasten the splash shield. Drop the vehicle a little, so the cooling system can be filled, reconnect the negative battery cable, start the engine for a few minutes to warm it.
