How to Install a Brake Light Switch on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Before starting the installation of the brake light switch, shut off the supplemental restraint system by disconnecting the negative battery cable, isolating it and waiting two minutes for the system capacitor to drain. Extend the brake lamp switch plunger, then attach the connector of the wire harness back to the switch. Press the brake pedal down and put the first set of tabs from the switch locking collar into the aligned hole in the bracket. Put the tab in the locking collar through the hole in the frame and lift the switch housing until it clicks snugly into place against the bracket. Then, while holding the switch, turn the housing clockwise about 30 degrees to attach the four tabs to the metal bracket. It is important to stop pulling on the brakes past 9 kilograms (20 pounds) to take care of your brake booster. Release the brake pedal, then give it a slight upwards pull to return it to its regular at-rest place; you'll hear a light ratchet as the plunger moves into position. After that, attach the steering column cover to the instrument panel and link the battery's negative cable.
