Any vehicle that uses a supplemental restraint after a crash is required to have the restraint replaced. If the driver air bag has been set off, the Clock Spring has to be replaced too. Deployed air bags in the passenger area call for a replacement of the instrument panel top pad and deployed side air bags require changing the entire air bag unit and door trim panel. They are not made for repeat use and could easily become damaged or less reliable than they seem in appearance. Damage to the passenger air bag mounting points on the instrument panel structural duct must be closely observed and the instrument panel assembly needs to be replaced if such damage appears. It is necessary to check and repair the positions and brackets for the Occupant Restraint Controller (Orc) and side impact sensors back to their original state once any vehicle impact damage is detected, since this may keep air bags from working properly. All other vehicle parts should be checked following an Srs event and they should only be replaced if there is visible damage. air bags equipped with two initiators have potentially live pyrotechnic material, so don't get rid of them until you're certain they have deployed. Utilize the Hazardous Substance Control System to make sure you dispose of substances safely and are in line with all pertinent rules. Make sure that every squib was activated by checking the multistage air bags when they are deployed. When activated by the rear Orc, the driver or passenger squibs send out electrical signals to the air bag inflators, filling the air bags with gas. Both of these signs are generally used, yet it is important to confirm activation of each to be sure no one accidentally touches or deals with live biosecurity materials. Before taking out the air bag squibs for disposal, scan the parts using a Drbiii, following these steps: ensure Drbiii is running the latest software, connect it to the Dlc lower to the instrument panel on the driver side, turn the ignition to the On position and write down all the active DTCs in the Drbiii display. If air bag squib open codes are not active, the status of the air bag cannot be determined and the bag should be treated and disposed of as if both squibs have sent a live signal.
