How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable for Rear on Dodge Challenger?

Before servicing the rear parking brake cable, make sure to raise and support the vehicle. Since the parking brake has short travel and only a little tension, there is no need to lock it out. For the left rear, remove cable 1 at equalizer 2 that is above the differential and rear crossmember 6; for the right rear, separate cable 4 at connector 3 above the rear axle differential and rear crossmember. On the cable service side, take off the parking brake shoes and unfasten shoe actuator lever 1 from the end of cable 2. Take out screw 4 holding cable 2 to knuckle 3 and then remove the cable from the joint. After that, pull cable 2 from guide 1 of the routing diagram. Fit the 13 mm 12-point box wrench 4 over the strand and fully down on cable retainer 3 at crossmember bracket 1 on the left and 2 on the right, wiggling the wrench as needed to get the retainer fingers to compress. When the wrench is secure, take the cable from the bracket and remove it from your vehicle.

How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable on Dodge Charger?

Always lift the car and maintain it securely before starting any brake service. At the right side of the car, separate the cable (4) from the front parking brake connector (5) above the axle differential. Remove the front cable (3) from the equalizer (2) and get rid of screw (2) that is located in the routing bracket underneath the crossmember. Then, remove the nuts, bolt and push-pins (1-4 respectively) holding the lower rear wheelhouse shield (3) and remove the shield from the vehicle. Disconnect the routing clip (4) nuts and then unfasten screw (6) to remove cable (7) from under the body (3). Drop the suspension until the car is sitting on the floor and then take both scuff plates and trim pieces off the vehicle's cowl side. After you have removed the clip, fold back the carpet from the front cable. You must secure the cable connector first, to avoid the cable being wound up inside the assembly when the front parking brake cable is detached from the lever. Pull down on the parking brake cable connector with pliers and then place it into the retaining fork bracket (1). Move the front brake's slide cable (4) along to force the front brakes into position at the rear of the vehicle, then take the cable strand (1) off the cable bracket (2). The lever bracket uses a cable retainer that you can collapse with a 13 mm 12-point box wrench (2). After that, remove the protective cup (2) covering the parking brake cable (7) from below the vehicle.
